About the Garden

A Planned Project

Experience the Divine Roots of the American Republic

The National Garden of the Founders is a planned 20-acre display of beautiful botanical gardens located in Bedford County, Virginia.

Founded by the John Bona family, the project envisions an intentional destination where American heritage and history are celebrated in a beautiful landscape.

A Botanical Experience that Traces the Roots of the American Republic.

Dan Williamson’s architectural design conveys a one-mile walk through seven exhibit areas, showing the Divine roots of the American republic. The garden is intended to be both visually inspiring and historically meaningful, inviting guests to experience beauty, reflection, and education in a calm setting.

Master Plan Overview

The architectural drawing lays out a visitor experience beginning at the entry and rising through a sequence of paths, exhibits, landscapes, and architectural features. The concept combines movement with garden spaces to tell a larger story.

  • The concept includes arrival from Forest Road, parking, and welcomes guests to the gardens.
  • The one-mile walk is organized into distinct exhibit areas, and when combined show God’s providential hand in the formation of our Republic..
  • Stonework, terraces, seating, arches, and pavilions help shape the project’s timeless and commemorative feel.
  • The plan supports moments of rest, contemplation, and historical reflection as visitors move through the grounds.
